Founded in 1922, Demartino Hospital stands as Somalia’s oldest and most esteemed medical institution. With a legacy that spans over a century, we are dedicated to providing exceptional healthcare services to all members of our community.
Demartino Hospital was established during Italian colonial rule and named after Italian Governor Demartino. It was initially set up as the nation’s main public hospital and has since evolved into a comprehensive healthcare provider. Over the decades, the hospital has become renowned for its critical care, chronic illness management, and disability support. Despite suffering extensive damage during the civil war, Demartino Hospital was reconstructed and reopened in December 2016 under the leadership of President Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud. In February 2019, the Ministry of Health Somalia assumed control, further expanding the hospital’s capacity and services through strategic partnerships.
